Adele Mara..............Born Adelaide Delgado in 1925 Spanish-American Adele Mara was a singer/dancer with Xavier Cugat and His Orchestra in Detroit by the age of 15. Cugat dragged this beautiful brunette in New York. She was then signed by Columbia's talent Scout in the year 1942. The actress played a number of low-key, boring B films starring Tex Ritter including Vengeance of the West in 1942 as well as Alias B. Blackie which was released in 1942 and starring Chester Morris. Signing up for Republic Studios a few more years later, she transformed herself into a blonde, platinum-colored pinup. The actress was in high demand at Republic Studios, mostly playing senoritas opposite Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. Her appearances also made for interesting fodder in crime dramas including Blackmail (1947) and Web of Danger (1947) and a pleasant diversion in adventure films such as Wake of the Red Witch (1948) featuring John Wayne and The Avengers (1950). Angel in Exile (1998) and Sands of Iwo Jima (1999) and both were starring Duke Wayne, were arguably her most memorable acting performances. Seldom was she given an opportunity to showcase her acting talents however and her career in film slowed down by the mid 1950s. The last time she appeared in a film was her role on The Big Circus with Victor Mature (1959). Adele was then a TV star and was featured in numerous guest commercials, mostly westerns. Her final goal was to have a family following her marriage to TV billionaire Roy Huggins who produced many hit shows including 77 Sunset Strip (1958) and Maverick (1957). The majority of the shows she appeared on were based on her appearance as a special guest. The couple was blessed with three children. Huggins passed away 2nd February 2002.
